Neuropteris is a fossil seed fern charactrerized by leaflets that were usually blunt-tipped and usually attached to the base at a single point (as opposed to the entire leaflet). The leaflets are also often heart-shaped at their base.

The leaf itself terminates in a single leaflet.

Paripteris is the name given if it terminates in a pair of leaflets.

Large, totally different-looking Neropteris leaflets, oval-round in shape, are often found attached to the stem. When these distinctive leaflets are found detached, they are given the name Cyclopeteris.
